Julie and Barry’s Ibiza Wedding Story

Julie and Barry Ibiza Wedding StoryMy first Ibiza wedding of 2017  was up at the impossibly beautiful Santa Eulalia church, Puig de Missa. Perched high up above pretty countryside and blue seas this church is by far one of the most stunning to be found anywhere.
Julie and Barry are family of friends of mine so I was very excited to be asked to be their wedding photographer. All from Ireland their group totalled 110 which really takes some organising! As they’d been coming here for years I was interested to know not only why they had chosen Ibiza, but also what was it they most loved about having their wedding here. So I put together a few questions for them and they were kind enough to provide me with this their Ibiza wedding story…

How did you meet?
Myself and Barry met through Gaelic Football, I was playing for the local ladies team and Barry and his brother Johnny (our best man) were our trainers. He fell in love with my competitive nature!!!!
Why did you choose Ibiza for your wedding?
I certainly did not always want a wedding abroad. I’m a real home bird, very attached to our community here at home in Mallow and always thought I’d get married in our local church and have the reception in a nearby hotel. I had this image in my head since I was 15 or 16. However, as I’m 30 I have been attending LOTS of weddings of late, roughly 10 per year for the last three years and I started to grow tired of the same style of wedding being recreated time and time again. I also watched some of best friends on their wedding days wade through 200+ guests trying to make small talk while barely spending time with their nearest and dearest, so when Barry proposed and I REALLY thought about it  I realised I wanted a smaller, more intimate and different day, I also didn’t want just ONE day of celebrations when I had been waiting for this day for so long, I wanted a week long party with my best friends and family and that’s exactly what I got.
Ibiza was an easy choice for us as we have family living there and have been to island many time. We love Ibiza.
Where did you have your reception and what other places would you recommend?
We got married in Puig de Missa in Santa Eulalia and had our reception in the beautiful La Casita in Cala Llonga.
We simply love Cala Llonga, it’s beautiful and vibrant but quiet and relaxed at the same time. When we retire that’s where you will find us! We love La Casita, La Paloma, Casa Piedra, Caos, Es Caliu…. the list is endless where restaurants are concerned, Ibiza has amazing food! Cala d’Hort is a favourite spot of ours, sunsets are simply spectacular there.
When will you be back?
We hope to return for a short stay in August if this year and if not we will certainly be back for our first wedding anniversary.
Our friends and family also adored the island, they couldn’t believe how beautiful it is and how easy going and relaxed it  is. People were especially impressed by the food, its so easy and affordable to eat well. Many of our guests are talking about revisiting the island in the future.
Would you recommend Ibiza for a Wedding?
I would absolutely recommend Ibiza for all couples. It has something for everybody.
We are so grateful to our wonderful and talented photographer Anne Walker. Anne was incredible in the lead up to our big day and especially on the day itself. We captured the beauty of the church and surrounding area beautifully. We found Anne to be very efficient, dedicated and committed to her work. It was evident from Anne that wedding photography is something she is genuinely passionate about
Anne was not invasive in anyway, we barely knew she was there at times and yet she captured every special and beautiful moment artistically and powerfully.
We are completely in love with our photographs, we will treasure them forever, we feel so lucky to have had such a professional photographer capture our wedding day.
Thank you Anne,
Julie and Barry
