I’m following on from my last wedding planner interview with this lovely lady. Monica is originally from Madrid and now gets to split her time between there and Ibiza. She heads up The Joy Agency which she created herself after getting married here on the island.
We recently managed to take some time out and have an enjoyable meeting sat in one of Ibiza’s cosiest bars, Can Costa in Santa Gertrudis. I was so happy to get to know her and also get to quiz her on all things wedding. Read on to know more!

Tell me about yourself and Joy weddings & events. How did it all begin?
I knew instantly when I arrived in Ibiza that someday I would get married here. All the way back in the year 2000, that’s how I envisioned my wedding day. Can you believe it?
I am from Madrid, and at the time I lived abroad as well. I really wanted my family and friends from all over the world to see Ibiza and to love it as much as I do. It was also important that they have an amazing experience and to show them my LOVE for Ibiza as part of my Big Day Celebration 🙂
As my background is Communication and Marketing (I worked many years for Coca Cola, P&G & Campari) and I loved designing the event of my life so much, to create a wedding business of my own was something natural for me. Since that moment, Joy The Agency has come true and I couldn’t be happier.
What services do you offer your wedding clients? What can people expect?
I always tell our clients we don’t do weddings. What we do is create outstanding life lasting memorable experiences to celebrate love. Our Agency has dedicated itself to create the best memories everyone is looking for at their most important celebration, their wedding. Joy weddings and events is a brand dedicated to creating bold, harmonious, luxurious and memorable timeless moments. I love working internationally for stylishly minded couples who desire something out of the ordinary. We don’t replicate; we create! That’s a key factor for us. I feel that’s the reason we are a top & exclusive wedding boutique (we only accept 15 weddings per year, for instance)
Our events are as unique as each couple. Celebrating LOVE is an exceptional experience with its own identity. Each wedding deserves a meticulously hand crafted seal that is synonymous with higher standards of quality.
We understand the importance of luxury service and perfectly understand the needs of our couples. We want to know who they are, what their struggles are and also their dreams. I understand they will need a lot of support in many aspects of their planning, so everything runs smoothly and is an enjoyable experience for them. Continuous communication is a key for us as changes and challenges along the wedding path are common. It’s important to be in tune with couples and to know how they are, how they feel, what’s important for them and their state of mind.
Are there any particular venues or types of venues that you work with?
Sure, we only work with the best ones that perfectly match our high standards of service, quality, and uniqueness. It’s very important the venues have these important points. Also, we have to have a special event flow, so different areas or spaces are also a must.
We are always envisioning distinct possibilities to create this “wedding flow” full of beautiful wow moments.
We love to say that we only create bespoke projects, and that’s how we design it. Sometimes we are the first ones to define a space as a potential wedding venue.
We are always scouting for something unique and fabulous for our couples 🙂
What makes Ibiza so special for weddings?
Everything here is memorable! Glorious beaches, breathtaking sunsets, Mediterranean coves and glistening waters. Then there’s the incredible high cuisine restaurants, performance and entertainment artists, best wedding villas, countryside venues, world class interiors and luxury worldwide hotels on the same island… But for us, the most important thing is its special magic and energy. It’s our sanctuary to daydream, inspire, design, conceptualise and deliver the breathtaking moments our clients are going to live on their wedding day.
Finally, why do you think having a wedding planner is so important?
To get married in a wedding destination is always a reason to stress. There can be various challenges including, language, culture and way of work. Or maybe couples simply don’t have all the possibilities in their mind when choosing the best wedding venue. It’s easy to become crazy searching around Google or Instagram trying to find the perfect spot.
To have a good wedding planner (not just a wedding planner) means you are going to live that special journey, enjoying every moment as your time and the way you are using it, is super valuable. Our couples will receive great options and better ideas to solve issues as a priority. Getting married in Ibiza before as a bride makes me believe how important is to make things easy for our clients. They deserve to live their wedding journey encased in joy. That’s why we strive to meet all our clients’ expectations.

In conclusion…
I had a great time meeting up with Monica and I really liked her approach to weddings. Ibiza can sometimes feel a bit saturated with suppliers all jostling to capture as many weddings as possible. It was nice therefore to meet someone who puts a limit on their work life, prioritising quality over quantity. It’s clear that giving a personal and unique service is very important to Monica. If you think this might suit your wedding style then she may just be the planner for you!
