Common Ibiza Wedding Regrets – At a Glance

Based on my years of capturing unforgettable moments, here are some of the most frequent regrets I’ve heard from couples:

• Guest List Drama: Inviting everyone can be tempting, and you may feel some pressure to include certain people. But the beauty of a destination wedding often means a smaller, handpicked guest list. Prioritise those closest to you.
• Underestimating Costs: Beyond the venue and flights, hidden expenses can sneak up on you. Create a detailed budget and add a cushion.
• Overlooking the Heat: Ibiza is sunny and gorgeous, however it is also very hot. Don’t underestimate this for yourselves or your guests.
• Not Hiring a Planner: A local wedding planner can be a lifesaver, especially in unfamiliar territory. They know the best vendors and can handle the stress.
• Cutting Costs on Hair and Makeup: Friends may kindly offer to help with this and it may be tempting to just do your own makeup. The difference is ALWAYS obvious when professional make up hasn’t been used, take it from me.
• Not Enough Buffer Time: Your wedding day is incredible, but it can fly by and things just take longer. It’s easy to fall behind on the schedule which can impact on other important parts of the day.

No Regrets! How to Make Sure Your Ibiza Wedding Runs Smoothly.

Limiting Your Guest List Creates a More Meaningful Wedding.
This one is up there with budget for giving the most grief to couples on their wedding day. One of the most common regrets couples express is feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of guests. With an Ibiza wedding, a limited guest list naturally narrows down to the people who are truly close to you, creating a more meaningful celebration with less stress. Fewer guests mean you can connect with each person there, sharing more personal moments rather than rushing from one group to the next. This setup allows you to truly enjoy the company of your nearest and dearest without feeling the pressure of managing a large crowd. In my experience the ideal number is between 45-60 guests if you’re looking for a wedding with a party included, or you can go smaller, 2-20, if you would like to keep things super intimate and personalised.

Stay on Budget.
These are some costs to watch:
Unanticipated Vendor Fees
Many venues and some hotels, especially resorts, add fees for bringing in outside vendors like photographers, hair and make up artists, florists, or catering teams. Fees can range widely, so factor this into your budget from the start to avoid last-minute surprises. If you have to fork out for a day pass for your vendors and 6 bridesmaids who are staying in another hotel, that can be really expensive!
Travel and Transportation Costs
It’s tempting to cut costs here and suggest that guests arrive at your venue by taxi, this can be a big mistake and can have an huge impact on your day. Taxis in Ibiza are notoriously unreliable so booking transport for yourselves and for your guests is essential. Your venue or planner will be able to organise this for you, trust what they suggest, this is a really important element of your day to budget for!
Bridal Party Obligations
It’s so lovely to be surrounded by your favourite people as your bridal party and if you want 8 bridesmaids and 8 groomsmen then you should certainly have them. However, it’s generally accepted that you pay for their outfits, so don’t forget to make sure you have the budget for this before you ask them! Personalised gifts are also a nice touch during the getting ready part of the day so this may be an additional expense to have in mind.

VAT (IVA) and Bank Transfer Fees
Some quotes you’ll receive are without VAT, don’t forget to double check it’s included as adding 21% on to some figures can make a massive difference. Bank transfer fees can also be steep, I recommend using services such as Wise or Revolut to cut down on these extra and unnecessary outgoings. Finally, some Ibiza vendors will ask for their payment in cash euros when you arrive. This is something to really pay attention to, if you have to go to your bank and withdraw a last minute large amount it could end up being complicated. Keep an eye on this as the amounts can soon add up and definitely don’t leave it until you get here as cash machines can only give out 300e/day.

Underestimating the Heat
You’ve booked Ibiza for your wedding so you can be sure of sunshine and the most beautiful backdrops, but the one of the Ibiza wedding regrets that I hear a lot about is just how hot it can get. It still surprises me all these years on! The heat is perfectly manageable but it can really get in your face if you and your guests aren’t prepared, so here are my own top tips to make sure you all enjoy the whole day:
Drink lots of water & don’t forget to eat. 
It sounds so simple and silly to mention, but with all those fizzy drinks flying about and people bringing you cocktails etc, water gets forgotten. Plan on hydration breaks every hour and if you feel giddy go straight for the full fat coke, it’ll sort you out in moments trust me Most couples also forget to eat, what with it all being a whirlwind. It can be a good idea to assign a bridesmaid the task of reminding you to eat and drink so you don’t forget.

Do you really need a wedding planner?
There are 100s of posts that will tell you how easy it is to plan your own wedding and why eliminating a planner is a great idea. In some cases this can be true, but if you are booking a full wedding day with various elements & suppliers that need to come together perfectly, then it’s essential for you to have a professional on board. Ibiza is blessed with excellent people who will literally streamline your day and take care of all the stresses for you. It’s hard to imagine how many moving parts there are to a wedding day and organising from abroad over email and video call can get frustrating. Consider leaving the heavy admin work to someone else so you can concentrate on the fun stuff & avoid having any Ibiza wedding regrets in the lead up to the day.

Professional Hair & Make Up – It seems pricey, can’t you just do it yourself?
This is one area where I have a strong opinion, do not do your own make up. You won’t be comfortable and the camera won’t like it! I’ve seen many brides and bridesmaids who are perfectly proficient at doing their own makeup at home, however when done here it just doesn’t work, it doesn’t stay on and it ends up streaked. This is one thing that’s worth the investment and you’ll know that both you and your bridesmaids will look amazing all day long.

Adding in Extra Time
You may heard of the 30/5 rule? It’s a good one to hold on to. You won’t believe this until you’re in it, but what takes 5 minutes in real life really will take around 30 minutes on your wedding day. Going to the toilet, moving around your venue, getting a few people together for a photo, all of these things can take an absolute age and play havoc with your timeline if you haven’t factored in some buffer. It’s a lovely thing, but everyone will want to talk to you as you pass by, they’ll also all want photos with you, so any thoughts of just nipping off to have a look at your tables before dinner or a quick visit to the loo will all take much longer than you think! Between each element of your day such as arrival at your venue and the ceremony itself, or after your drinks and canapes and before your meal, factor in some buffer time, that way you’re not behind before you’ve started.

It’s getting hot out there! If you have an Ibiza wedding coming up in July or August then you’ll be looking forward to lots of sunshine for your magical day. But wait, there’s a catch – if you’re not careful, the heat can get a bit in your face! 

Fear not, for I have you covered with this ultimate guide on how to keep cool at your Ibiza wedding this summer, ensuring your special day remains nothing short of sensational.

For this post, I had a chat with 2 Ibiza wedding hair and make-up experts who just so happen to have years of experience dealing with the hottest months on the island. I asked them what were their 3 top tips for staying fresh looking, sweat-free and photo ready in this Ibiza heat. I’ll also share with you the most thoughtful summer wedding gifts you can give your guests to help them stay as cool as possible on your big day. 

• If you’re having some hair up, think twice about leaving any long hair bits around the face, especially in July and August. Often with the heat they will drop and also look stringy on your photos if they go a little sweaty. It can also be quite breezy on ceremony terraces so this can get annoying & be bad for the photos if you have hair blowing across your face. If you are going to have some curls round the face then pin curl set them and take them out just before you leave to give them a chance to hold better.
• Extensions will always hold better in the heat if you’re thinking of wearing your hair down. They aren’t attached to your scalp so don’t absorb the oils and sweat from the heat.
• Always rinse your hair in bottled water the wash just before your wedding day. This will help give your hair more moisture as the water here in Ibiza isn’t the best so will help your style better and your hair will shine more.

Finally, would you recommend brides always wear their hair up?
Well that’s a tough one as some girls just don’t like their hair up and I get that. They have to feel the most beautiful version of themself. But in July & August a updo will look the best on pictures.

• Bring your own lip colour so you can keep topping up throughout the day. With drinking, eating and smooching this will wear, so it’s always best to take one with you for a top up to guarantee your pictures to look flawless.
• Translucent powder is a must to have in your bag in the Ibiza humidity. If you feel like the makeup is going too shiny, dust a little on top of your makeup and this will re-fresh everything and take you back to the original look.
• No steaming dresses after hair and makeup is complete. this will cause the hair to re-frizz and the makeup to go shiny.
  I’d always recommend that you hire a professional to steam the wedding clothes, or do all steaming the night before

Getting Married in Ibiza? This post will answer (almost) all of your questions.

In this post I’m going to answer (almost) every Ibiza Wedding Question I get asked. I’ve been an Ibiza Wedding Photographer for many years and I’ve seen the island go from a few small weddings throughout the summer to the number 1 wedding destination it is today.
As it’s evolved there have been plenty of changes and new trends emerging, which makes for a lot of questions and a constant need to stay up to date. I thought it was about time to put this ultimate guide together for any couples who’ve already booked their Ibiza Wedding, or are just about to.

All Ibiza wedding ceremonies are symbolic. You can only legally get married in Ibiza if you are a resident or 1 of you is catholic. For you to be ‘legally married’ this would have to take place in the UK, usually beforehand. But this is not essential or mandatory.
This helpful post from Ibiza Spotlight has all the info you’ll need about a legal marriage in Ibiza.

A typical Ibiza wedding season runs from May until early October. The most popular dates are late May and early June followed by late August and on into September.
July and August are incredibly hot in Ibiza and it’s not recommended to have your wedding during those times, especially if it will all be outside. However, it is the school holidays in the UK, so these months do get busy with couples who have young children or groups which include a lot of children.
Early October is really the last couple of weeks in which we see weddings here, this can be a lovely time of year which often enjoys the best sunsets. 

You can get married on a beach in Ibiza, but remember the ceremony is always symbolic. Ibiza beach ceremonies are a beautiful and unique way to celebrate your love for one another. The sunset light is perfect and you’re right by the sea in one of the world’s most amazing places. There are just a few things to remember:

• Ibiza beaches get busy at sunset. So you might want to find a more secluded space on nearby rocks or a clifftop.
• Ibiza beach weddings are standing room only. It’s illegal to place any unauthorised structure (arch, chairs etc) on any part of Ibiza’s coastline.
• These type of ceremonies are best suited to small weddings or just yourselves. The biggest group should be around 20 people.

It’s definitely worth it. I may be biased but hear me out If you’re going to the trouble of coming away for your wedding then you want to make sure that it’s documented in the right way. Your photos are the only lasting keepsake you will have of your day so it’s essential that they are perfect. Friends and family may want to gift you their photography skills, and that’s a lovely gesture, but do you really want one of your guests to have no part of enjoying your day with you? Or worse, enjoying your day to the full and missing half of the most important shots.

For the best ‘full day’ coverage, the average cost of a wedding photographer in Ibiza is between 1200-2500e. Those prices seem very far apart, but they depend on a lot of factors. You can find out everything you need to know about the price of a wedding photographer in Ibiza on my in-depth Blog Post.

It all depends on your day and how much coverage you would like. Typical photography options start at 3 hours with the maximum being 8.
As a guide, 4 hours of photography will usually cover the following:

• Guests Arrival
• Bride’s Arrival
• Ceremony
• Family & Group Shots
• Couple Photography

Choosing a longer option will include things like bridal prep and the first dance/start of the party. It all depends on what you would like covered. Don’t be afraid to ask your photographer to create a personal option based on your preferences. And if you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, don’t be! Your Ibiza Photographer will put you completely at ease

No. but it’s well worth checking what elements can be changed or eliminated before you book an all inclusive package. Packages are usually created to include everything that a couple needs for their wedding, this can be a great help as it’s hard to know what’s essential and what isn’t. The downside is that it can be a bit impersonal, so if for example you have a clear idea for decor or something more unique in mind, it’s worth checking ahead. 

Ibiza Ceremonies usually take between 20 – 40 minutes. Your chosen host will walk you through the timings and also provide advice on where and how many readings you can have. Time of year plays an important role in your ceremony length. July & August weddings should be as short and sweet as possible to avoid you all melting in the Ibiza heat!

The best Ibiza Wedding Venues can be found all over the island. The question to first ask yourself is where’s your favourite place in Ibiza? Do you love the sunsets on the west coast or have you always travelled as a family to the east coast resorts of Santa Eulalia or Es Cana? Maybe you’ve always loved the pretty countryside here? Once you decide on your favourite place then you can narrow down which venue will be best for you.

How to choose your Ibiza Wedding Photographer…

It’s quite normal to feel a little overwhelmed when planning your Ibiza Wedding from afar. There are so many elements to manage and things to decide. But choosing your Ibiza Wedding Photographer shouldn’t be a stressful experience, not if you keep these essential 5 things in mind…

Price.

This is always going to be important. Photography is up there with the things you will spend the most money on. But don’t worry, the most expensive option isn’t always the one which will get the photos best suited to you. Get some quotes, compare prices and don’t be afraid to double check what’s included. With some services there are things you may have to add on later. So it’s best to find out at the beginning if this is the case. The more upfront things are at this stage the better you’ll feel.

Personality

The better you get on with  your photographer the better your photos will be. It’s true I promise! One of the things I love most about  my job is getting to know each couple and enjoy spending time with them. Once you click then the job of getting those special and individual shots becomes a pleasure. When you begin your search for a wedding photographer don’t be afraid to ask some questions about each person you contact. The answers will tell you a lot about them and you’ll get a good feeling about who you’re talking to. On the day itself a good photographer with the right personality will know how to talk to you and your guests and will make the experience enjoyable.

Experience

Experience is key. But in the photography world it’s essential and in Ibiza it’s number 1! An experienced photographer will know how to set up the best shots with minimum fuss and they’ll know how to manoeuvre amongst you and your guests without intruding into your day. The aim is for you to hardly ever notice them. They’ll instantly know the shots you’ll love and how to achieve them. They may not be the cheapest option but a good wedding photographer will always to be on hand for all the most important moments without you having to search them out. This is definitely an investment worth making.

One last point on this subject, experience shouldn’t be confused with shooting tons of weddings every summer. These guys are usually overused by mass market wedding companies. They may be competent but they are usually knackered and this will definitely not a happy photographer make. So it’s worth asking your potential photographer how many weddings and events they take on each summer. Less is definitely more! And I think your wedding day deserves to be photographed by someone who’s really into it.

Professionalism.

Your photographer should remain focused and professional at all times. It’s good to have a chat with guests and enjoy the day but that has to be balanced correctly with working and always being aware of potential photos. You don’t want to look up and see your photographer having a better time than you!

When choosing your wedding photographer it’s also important that they not only know your venue but how to get there. The more professional will know all the most popular wedding spots very well. It may only be a small island but the opportunities for error getting to places are countless. It has happened, the photographer has arrived after the bride and all because they didn’t really know where they were going. Disaster!

Quality of the Work.

The great thing about the internet is there’s great access to every kind of photography on offer. You can quickly see everyone’s’ images and where they’ve been working.

When thinking of how to choose your Ibiza wedding photographer it’s best to just view a few images from each person’s portfolio. Instagram is great starting point. There you’re likely to see all their most recent work, then you can head over to their website and have a look at a few galleries. Next, ask yourself simply do I like this? Can I see myself having a photo like this? How much time would it take to achieve each picture? For example, if you’re looking for a more natural and relaxed approach, you may want to steer away from someone who presents overly fussy set ups. In short, if a photographer has made a good effort to present themselves to you in a way that you like then that’s it really, job done

Ibiza Wedding Venue Questions. The Things You Need to Know…

Firstly congratulations! If you’re reading this, then you’ve got engaged and you’re thinking of getting married in Ibiza. With that choice I already know you have impeccable taste!  One of the first things, if not the very first thing to book is your venue. This choice should reflect you and your personalities and also be amazing for your guests. So not much to ask then! Ibiza is bursting with beautiful wedding venues. Beaches, Clifftops, Gardens, Villas, there’s something for every couple. But how do you choose which one is best for you? And especially when you’re so far away? These are my top 10 things to bear in mind when making your choices, whether your’re here visiting in person or deciding online. No matter what type of wedding you’re dreaming of these are the things you must know…

The Ibiza Wedding Venue Questions to consider…

Location 

Not only does your Ibiza Wedding Venue need to wow you, but you also need to find it! From personal experience there are a fair amount of places which although amazing require lots of map work and sturdy vehicles to get to them. If you are visiting in person (which I recommend) then you should time how long it takes to arrive at each potential venue. Was it difficult to find? Remember your guests will not arrive prepared for a cross-country hike! 

Flexibility

Not surprising to see this one move up the list! It’s an essential that’s super important at the moment and going forward. Should you be unable, or indeed uncomfortable about travelling once your date comes around what policy does your venue have in place? It’s important to ask and have clear exactly how many times you can postpone, what the terms are regarding this, and how soon before the day you can do this. Will there be a fee or will you lose a deposit already paid. Ibiza’s most popular and professional venues will have no problem helping you with these queries.

Hygiene & Safety

We’re all very aware of new levels of cleanliness and hygiene and your Ibiza Wedding Venue is no exception. Important questions to ask are what protocols will be in place for guests on arrival, what can they expect and how will things play out during the day. A quick scan around should tell everything you need to know but there’s no harm asking and having things clear.

Transport Options

No matter how tempted you are to ‘just let everyone get taxis’, it’s never a good idea. Ibiza has a notoriously unreliable taxi system which can’t be pre-booked. This often results in late arrivals delaying the ceremony and a large number of people stranded at the end of the night. Not good. Therefore your Ibiza wedding venue needs to be accesible by coach or at least mini bus. All professional venues & planners will have excellent transport contacts and be able to easily arrange for you and your group to arrive and leave with zero hassle.

Accessibility

It’s likely you’ll have a mixture of families and older guests at your Ibiza Wedding. Will they be able to move easily around the venue? Is it safe? Whilst a cliff-side stunner might be your dream, would your guests with children feel the same?
Make sure you check where each part of the day will take place and how guests will move between each area. 

Ceremony Area

Where is this? Is there shade and will it be peaceful when your ceremony takes place? Some Ibiza Wedding Venues are next to big hotels which can get very lively of an evening. Your viewing might take place in the morning so you may miss how noisy things can get for your ceremony and reception. Be sure to ask about this.

So how does it work?

Location: If you’ve already booked your Ibiza holiday then we can start there. The easiest way of finding the perfect location is to keep it close to where you’re staying. Thankfully I know the island really well so can recommend some lovely spots anywhere 🙂
Alternatively you may already have an Ibiza place you love. In which case we can work out the best way of setting up there.

Photography: I am definitely included in this day! I love small ceremonies, not just for the amazing back drops but because of the beautiful photos I always get. There’s just something about it being just the 2 of you, or you and your closest people that makes for a very special atmosphere.

Ceremony Host: I’ll put you in touch with friendly and professional ceremony hosts who can create a personalised blessing you’ll love.

Drinks: No Ibiza Wedding is complete without something cold to toast with. Cava & Beers can all be organised for you.

Once in Ibiza we meet at the ceremony area before the day and go through everything. Then it’s time.

Ceremonies take place around an hour before sunset. Relaxed photos come as standard, and the edited shots returned to you in super quick time. After sunset enjoy your drinks, and then perhaps a chilled meal together at a restaurant of your choice, or I can book one of my favourites for you.

Ibiza Beaches I Love… Sa Caleta

This week I’m in sunny Sa Caleta, home to soft sands, turquoise sea and some very special spots for great photography. Read on to find out why!

Where:
A cove on the south west seaboard in the municipality of Sant Josep. 6.8 miles (10.9 km)  to the west of Ibiza town. The village of Sant Josep is 5.7 miles (9.2 km) east of the cove.

Why:
Sa Caleta is one of those Ibiza beaches that includes my favourite elements of photography… beautiful backdrops and lots of options!
The main beach itself sports an earthy sand hued cliff face. This makes for amazing and colourful photography, as the deep orange clashes with the perfect blue skies. One of Ibiza’s finest fish restaurants can also be found here, but more about that at the end!

Sa Caleta is not all about beaches however. My personal favourite area and the gem of this network of small coves and cliffs are the fishermans huts set off to one side. They’re reached via a short walk around the back of the beach, or over the cliff top itself. The latter option being the most satisfying as you get to wander past ancient Phoenician settlements, through woodland and on to stunning vistas.

Possibilities are endless here. The clear sea meets a series of boat launches, clustered together under shady wicker and wood coverings. These in turn lead on to brightly coloured entrances to each boat hut, which are a joy to photograph. Finally we find ourselves up amongst some small driftwood covered huts with tiny balcony areas overlooking the sea. These spaces seem to have been created especially with a small wedding ceremony in mind! And remember that fabulous fish restaurant I mentioned at the beginning? Well it just so happens that would make the perfect after ceremony spot for an amazing meal or sunset cocktails, or both!

My Ibiza Photoshoot Favourite in the North.

Ibiza may be a tiny island, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in beaches. After living here for over 20 years I’m very happy to know almost every cliff and beautiful cove the island has to offer.  There’s something perfect for everyone, couples, families or intimate elopements and small wedding ceremonies. Ibiza is perfect for any photoshoot and can guarantee a perfect backdrop for any special moment.

Ibiza Photoshoot favourite: Cala Benirras.

Where:
On the northern coast of Ibiza. Cala Benirras is in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja, and is 4.6 miles (7.4 km) east of the village itself and 4.6 miles (7.4 km) north north east of the village of Sant Miquel de Balansat.

Why:

Cala Benirras is a large sweeping cove of soft sandy beach and crystal clear waters. A firm favourite with Ibiza’s famous hippies, the beach has been well known for its high energy drumming fest every Sunday. This is a must see for anyone interested in the more spiritual/bohemian side of things. Or for those just looking for some great photos! There’s also a really nice market selling artisan clothes, bags, jewellery and all things beach. It’s really cool and makes a refreshing change from the usual tat found in the shops and more commercial markets.

Families. I love family photography here. The beach is beautiful and safe, there’s nothing to fall off or into (top priority!) and there’s lots of lovely little corners to explore. 

Couples. The in-love amongst us will go nuts for the sheer amount of romantic spots Cala Benirras has to offer. The classic walk along the beach looks incredible at sunset and the cozy fisherman’s huts are perfect for those softer shots. 

Ceremonies. I hadn’t shot a small ceremony here until last summer, now I’m so glad that I did! We met at the beach and managed to find our way up onto a fisherman’s hut roof right as the sun went down. The atmosphere was so perfect and the colours so lovely. I can’t wait to come back for another wedding here.

Did you know…. On Sunday August 18, 1991 a gathering of anti-war activists, hippies and other sympathisers, took place on the beach at Benirrás. This event is now known as The Day of the Drums. The gathering was in protest at the first Gulf War in Iraq. The protest later evolved into an annual event up until 2002.

My Top 10 Ibiza Photography Favourites – Cala D’hort

Cala D’hort is one of those special places that everyone just loves as soon as they see it. Looming on the horizon is Es Vedra, which to many is Ibiza and certainly makes for some beautiful photos.

Small coves, high cliffs, fisherman’s huts and tasty restaurants, Cala D’hort is high up on my list of places you have to visit whilst spending time in Ibiza. I’ve shot wedding ceremonies, families, couples and a fair few surprise proposals here. Everyone has said yes by the way!

Ibiza Photography Favourites – Cala D’hort.

Where.
Cala d’Hort is on the west coast of Ibiza. The beach is in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia and is 13.3 miles (21.4 km) west of Ibiza town. The village of Sant Josep de sa Talaia is 7.0 miles (11.3 km) east of the beach.

Families: will love the beach and fisherman’s huts. There’s also boats to sit in, piers to explore and rocks to jump all over. The stunning backdrop of Es Vedra is ever present and makes every photo extra special.

Couples: have endless areas for loved up pics. The walks along the seafront at sunset just look amazing, whilst there are also some great little rocky corners and palm fringed shady spots for more cosy moments.
And for couples with a surprise in mind Cala D’hort is perfect I LOVE proposals and more than that I love surprise proposals. It just blows me away how thoughtful these fellas are and how far they’ve come for this special moment. Literally from all over the world! Tears of joy guaranteed

Small Ceremonies: The cliffs around Cala D’hort are amazing! And one of the best things about this area is there’s always somewhere perfect for an intimate wedding, even during busier months. The backdrop is just stunning and the best bit is that after the photos there are some super romantic and beautiful restaurants where you can raise a glass of chilled cava sangria afterwards!

And Finally…

Did you know that the island of Es Vedra was once home to a wild goat population? How they ended up living there is something of a mystery which stretches back to the early 90s. But it was their demise in 2016 which drew the most attention. After much arguing the local government decided they were doing too much damage to the islands’ native flora and fauna. This meant that they should be culled. A series of protests then erupted on the island and then tragically it was the end of an era. Talk suggests that not every goat was got, so you never know, they may already be multiplying and back, leaping around the rock in a few years’ time!
