An Elixir Ibiza Wedding Story… Jodi & Ashley

We were super happy to come together for this Elixir Ibiza Wedding and to get started with our new photo & video package! This is their wedding story in their words. 

Can you tell us why you chose Elixir for your Ibiza wedding?

I had been to a wedding at Elixir 3 years earlier as a guest and I said to my best friend “if ash ever asks me to marry him, I’m getting married here”. It is the most perfect venue! 

The views, food and staff are second to none. Elixir was exactly as I remembered but even better if that’s even possible. 

How was the experience? Did your guests enjoy the venue?

It really was the best day of our lives. Everyone has said that there will never be another wedding like it.

The Ibiza speed wedding!

Can you plan and have an Ibiza wedding in 30 days? Yes of course you can!

As soon as I heard the story, I knew I was going to love them and their wedding! Caroline had originally booked a completely different venue and date and was looking for a photographer to come and take some relaxed photos of them all. Unfortunately, I couldn’t be there as I was supposed to be in the UK (sad face) But fate was on my side. Caroline changed her mind. And the venue and the date! Only potential obstacle, it was going to be in less than a month!

The end of October is gorgeous in Ibiza. The days can be warm and the sunsets are stunning. Only minor obstacle is the chance of rain. As luck would have it, Caroline and Owen missed a 2 day downpour and had their Cas Mila Ibiza wedding on one of the most beautiful days of the month. All’s well that ends well

 

I caught up with them to find out just what it was like to plan and have their Ibiza wedding in super quick time.

A little bit about you, what you do and why you wanted an Ibiza wedding.

This was a second marriage for both of us so we knew instantly that we didn’t want a big white wedding or all the stress and formalities that come with it.  We’ve come to Ibiza for holidays for many years so it’s very special to us and it has become our family’s “happy place”. There isn’t really anywhere else we would choose to get married! We got engaged in Palma, Majorca so the Balearics feature heavily in the story of us! 

How did you find Cas Mila and what made you choose it? 

We found Cas Mila online! We actually didn’t see the venue for the first time until the day before the wedding as Covid prevented us from making any trips out before the big day. But we couldn’t be happier with our choice.  We did watch many videos and read many reviews when making our choice so felt confident it was what we were looking for in terms of a beach front venue, amazing views and relaxed vibe! We knew we wanted our children to play a big part in our day so didn’t want anywhere too formal or stuffy!!

Describe the planning process and how it felt to organise a wedding so quickly?

Obviously due to Covid there was a lot of uncertainty. As well as having to move our original date, we only knew for definite that our wedding could go ahead 4 weeks before the big day!  So until then no planning had been done at all. It really was all organised in under a month!! We couldn’t have done it without our amazing wedding planners Olga & Leanne who were so calm and super organised. Their meticulous attention to detail made us feel very confident they’d leave no stone unturned to get everything planned and booked in time. And they didn’t disappoint, we wouldn’t have changed a thing! They delivered on every single level. 

Tell me about your experience getting married at Cas Mila?

Cas Mila was everything we could have hoped for and more. A beautiful beachfront setting overlooking a stunning beach. The views are just amazing and we were so lucky to have clear blue skies and sunshine followed by the most incredible sunset. The whole set up of the wedding area is done to make the most of the beautiful view. Everyone at Cas Mila went above and beyond to make our day absolutely perfect. The food, the service, the organisation and professionalism were all just spot on. So many of our guests said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to which is some praise indeed! I genuinely couldn’t recommend this venue enough, we are so pleased we chose it. 

A few words about your photographer  

Anne, you were a pleasure to have at our wedding. You listened to what we were looking for from our pictures and instantly made us feel relaxed. You were there to capture every moment but in a discreet way and never in our faces. We were so happy with our photos. 

What are your favourite Ibiza places, beach, restaurants or bars?

Well obviously now Cala Tarida will obviously be a very special place to us and we’ll definitely be back. The beach there is just beautiful and perfect for young children. We usually stay in Cala Llonga on the other side of the island but I think after a week enjoying the most amazing sunsets we are now forever more sold on this side of the island!! Visiting Es Vedra to watch the sunset one evening was in particular a special moment.  We would definitely recommend hiring a car to explore the island – as well as Ed Vedra we also visited Time & Space and the abandoned festival club both of which are well worth visiting! We love the Sunset Ashram for food and drinks in a beautiful spot.

Natural Wedding Photography & How It’s Created…

Have you ever looked at amazing natural wedding photography and thought how are we ever going to achieve this?!
Posing and having all the attention on you can be a scary pressure. Especially if you’re not armed with some info beforehand. But fear not and read on… these are best methods for achieving those comfortable and carefree looks you’ll love! 

 1. Look at each other for 5 seconds.

 

Have you ever tried looking at your partner for 5 whole seconds? This is usually the result! It’s a fun, natural look which has love & happiness written all over it! I got this couple to do exactly that and they couldn’t stop laughing. Those 5 seconds made for at least 10 great pictures.

  2. Walk away and come back.

Yes simple as that. I usually ask for a slow walk with a few looks, a kiss is also encouraged! It’s an effective way of getting some great shots and all you have to do is concentrate on holding hands and looking great against the scenery.

3. Look at your hand or shoes.

It’s nice to take the attention away from the lens as much as possible, so a few glances at other things is a great way to ease this worry. This is a great shot when the bride is on her own. Once there’s something else ‘to do’ it’s amazing how relaxed a person can become.

4. Work that Veil.

I love a veil especially if there’s a bit of a breeze. Moving it around with your hands whilst looking into the distance looks great, and it’s lots of fun! You may feel a bit strange at first but when you get shots like these it’s all worth the effort. The best thing about these shots is you have your back to me so all that’s needed is a bit of movement to give the image lots of wow.

5. Look away, look at me.

Having things to do no matter how simple makes for much more natural looking images. Whenever someone says smile at the camera it has the effect of tensing up the shoulders and then this weird, scared smile happens! With this addition of a small movement the look back at me always results in lovely portrait shots.

6. Get the groom to compliment the bride.

I know, he’s done this lots of times already!! But a whispered comment always makes the bride laugh and it makes for a beautiful moment.

7. The almost kiss.

Kissing is a minefield, there is always the danger it can distort the faces a little. So having the couple almost kiss is a nice way of achieving a different kind of image. Holding the couple in place for a few seconds usually also gets a little smile or a laugh which means lots more lovely pictures for you.

8. Whisper in her ear.

Similar to the compliment, I use this method for a closer shot and usually so I get some nice laughter. Hopefully the groom will say something nice, but it has been known for him to tell the bride that he’s hungry, so some direction is occasionally needed!

9. Smile at someone else.

You don’t want to spend all your time grinning into the camera. For couple shoots it’s always recommended to invite a bridesmaid or helper along. This is primarily to assist with shoes and dress but she can also be a lovely help for getting a warm and natural smile.

10. Silhouettes.

One of my favourite shots! Silhouette posing is all about getting some distance between you and staying still. This one requires some direction but the list of nice poses is long and each shot will definitely be worthy of a place in your album.

I think the most difficult thing couples face when considering their wedding photography is how can this person we barely know capture us, like the real us? That’s why I love to chat to you first, find out your interests, why you love Ibiza too, what sort of wedding are you having? All those things that make you you and your day super special. I want everyone I work with to feel as relaxed as possible; maybe not 100% attainable whilst on a public beach in a wedding dress but we can get near it!

One of the best things about an Ibiza Wedding are all those amazing photos you can show off of you and your most loved looking blissed out on a beautiful beach. All that sunshine and stunning scenery should be captured in a fun yet dedicated way which is why our Ibiza beaches are my most favourite places

I’ve been an Ibiza Wedding Photographer for almost 10 years now which makes me one very lucky girl. I love what I do, not only because I enjoy meeting new people and taking pictures of them but because I’ve got to see so many new corners of this wonderful island. I like nothing more than showing off a secret cove or cliff top and then getting to do a shoot there that will be treasured.
