Perfectly located in the countryside above San Antonio Bay, Can Frare Ibiza is the kind of place that immediately feels peaceful and private.

The historic finca is around 300 years old, surrounded by open land, olive trees and sweeping views across Ibiza’s west coast. It’s exactly the sort of setting couples imagine when they start dreaming about a relaxed Ibiza villa wedding.

One of the things that makes villa weddings so special is the chance to spend more time together, and Alice and James made the most of that. They stayed at the villa with their closest friends and family in the days leading up to the wedding, turning the celebration into more than just a single day.

By the time the wedding day arrived, everyone already felt completely at home.

A Ceremony on the Terrace at Can Frare

The ceremony took place on the front terrace of the villa, one of the most beautiful spots at Can Frare. Framed by the traditional porch of the finca and surrounded by open countryside, it created a naturally intimate setting for Alice and James to exchange their vows.

Ibiza villa weddings often work so well because the ceremony feels relaxed and personal rather than formal. Guests gathered together on the terrace while the couple stood beneath the porch area, with views stretching across the surrounding countryside.

Poolside Drinks and Portraits Around the Villa

After the ceremony, guests made their way to the poolside terrace beside the villa, where the atmosphere quickly shifted from emotional ceremony to relaxed celebration.

With music playing and drinks flowing, everyone gathered around the pool to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine while catching up with friends and family. Ibiza villa weddings often have this lovely, unhurried feel, guests can move easily between spaces and simply enjoy the surroundings.

The wedding was beautifully planned and styled by Kerry at Love This Ibiza, who created a setting that complemented perfectly the rustic charm of Can Frare while keeping the day relaxed and welcoming.

Dinner, Sunset and an Ibiza Evening to Remember

Dinner took place on a beautiful terraced area on the other side of the villa, giving the evening its own dedicated space away from the ceremony and drinks reception.

One of the things that works so well at Can Frare is how naturally the day can move between different areas of the property. Each part of the celebration has its own setting, the terrace ceremony, the poolside drinks reception, and the dinner terrace. All this helps everything feel seamless and relaxed rather than rushed.

As guests took their seats for dinner, the atmosphere shifted again into that warm Ibiza evening mood. Long conversations, laughter and the first speeches of the night created the kind of moments that make destination weddings feel so special.

Just before the sun dipped below the horizon, Alice and James stepped away for a few minutes to make the most of the Ibiza sunset. With the countryside glowing in soft evening light, it was the perfect moment for a few final portraits before returning to the celebrations.

One of the advantages of getting married at a private finca like Can Frare is that beautiful photo locations are right on the doorstep, so couples don’t need to travel far or disappear for too long.

I worked alongside videographer Ibiza Wedding Films, run by Martin, who I collaborate with regularly. Because we’ve worked together on many weddings and are good friends as well, the whole process feels very easy and relaxed for couples.

Back at the dinner terrace, the speeches continued before the evening moved into one of the most fun traditions of the night, a champagne tower that quickly turned into a celebration with everyone gathered around.

From there it was straight into the first dance and the start of the party, with friends and family filling the dance floor as the Ibiza night got underway.

The island is famous for it, and rightly so. I never tire of it as the light turns warm and golden, the air cools slightly, and everything suddenly feels calmer after the excitement of the ceremony and drinks reception.

It’s the perfect moment for a few relaxed couple photos.

After photographing weddings in Ibiza for many years, I’ve found that sunset is when some of the most natural and beautiful moments of the day happen.
This guide will help you understand how to plan for it and make the most of Ibiza’s incredible golden hour.

Why Sunset Is Such a Special Time for Wedding Photos in Ibiza

The biggest reason is simple: the light.

In the middle of the day Ibiza sun can be strong and bright. By sunset the light becomes softer and warmer, which creates a much more flattering look in photos.

Golden hour light is:

* Beautiful against the Mediterranean sea

It’s also a lovely moment in the day for couples to pause for a few minutes together.

What Time Does Sunset Happen in Ibiza?

Sunset times change quite a bit throughout the wedding season. I’ll always check the exact timing for your date and plan around that.

As a rough guide:

May: around 9pm
June – July: around 9:15pm
August: around 9pm
September: around 8pm
October: around 7:30pm

I keep a close eye on the sunset time while planning the day with couples, so we can step out at exactly the right moment.

Sunset Wedding Photos Don’t Take Long

A lot of couples worry that sunset photos will mean disappearing from their guests.

The good news is they usually take around 20–25 minutes.

I normally suggest slipping away around 30 minutes before the sun starts to drop. We take a short walk, capture a few relaxed moments together, and then you can head straight back to the party.

Often the best photos happen when couples are simply walking, chatting or laughing together.

Pro Tip: Always check with your planner that sunset photos can be worked into your timeline. It’s essential to leave at the right moment as once it’s gone it’s gone!

Ibiza Is Famous for Its Sunsets

One of the reasons destination weddings in Ibiza are so special is the island’s incredible sunsets.

From beaches to clifftops, the views across the Mediterranean create an amazing backdrop for wedding photos.

If you’re planning a wedding right now, you’ve probably noticed that “wedding video” can mean many different things.
Alongside traditional/cinematic videography, you’ll also see video highlights options and, more recently, wedding content creators offering fast, social-ready footage at a much lower price point. 

It’s no surprise you may feel unsure about which one to pick. 

This post isn’t about what you should do, or what’s trendy right now. It’s just my honest outline of the differences between wedding video, highlights and content creation. I’ll take you through what each one actually offers, who they tend to suit, and why understanding those differences matters before you decide.

Wedding Content Creation

Wedding content creation is one of the newest options available to couples, and it’s grown in popularity very quickly.

A wedding content creator’s role is to capture short, informal video clips throughout the day, usually filmed on a phone. These clips are delivered very quickly, often within 24–48 hours, and are intended for social media: Instagram stories, reels, TikTok, or to share privately with friends and family straight away. There’s usually little or no editing involved, and the footage is provided as raw or lightly curated clips rather than a finished film.

For many couples, this can feel like a fun and low-pressure addition to the day. You get immediate memories, behind-the-scenes moments, and a casual perspective that can be really enjoyable in the days just after the wedding. It’s also typically offered at a lower price point than traditional videography, which makes it appealing when you’re trying to keep an eye on the budget.

Where expectations can become blurred is when content creation is seen as a replacement for a wedding film. Because it’s so visible online right now, it’s easy to assume the end result will feel timeless or hold the same emotional weight years down the line. In reality, content creation is designed for speed and relevance rather than longevity. It captures moments as they happen, but it isn’t built around storytelling, pacing, or long-term viewing in the same way a wedding video is.

Highlights Video

Highlights Video sits somewhere between traditional wedding videography and wedding content creation.
The day is filmed using professional video equipment, and the final delivery is usually a short, edited highlight film set to music. These films tend to be a few minutes long and are designed to give an overview of the day rather than a full, in-depth narrative. They’re polished, visually strong, and well suited to sharing online or revisiting when you want a quick reminder of how everything felt.

Because the focus is on a shorter final film, the filming process is often more streamlined than traditional videography. There’s less emphasis on capturing extended moments or building a longer story, and more focus on creating something that feels concise, engaging, and easy to watch. For couples who like the idea of video but don’t feel the need for a longer film, this can be a good middle ground.

Where it’s important to be clear is in understanding what you’re receiving. Highlight films are designed to summarise rather than document the day in full. You’ll see the key moments and atmosphere, but you may not have the same depth, pacing, or replay value as a longer wedding film. As with any option, it works best when chosen for what it is, not what it’s assumed to replace.

Traditional/Cinematic Wedding Video

Traditional wedding videography is the most established of the three options and is built around long-form storytelling. Rather than focusing on short highlights alone, the aim is to capture the day in a way that can be revisited years down the line and still feel meaningful.

A videographer will usually film throughout the day using professional equipment, capturing not just the key moments but also the build-up, interactions, and atmosphere in between. The final delivery often includes a longer wedding film, sometimes alongside a shorter highlights edit, carefully edited to reflect the pace and emotion of the day. Audio plays a big part here too, with speeches, vows, and natural sound helping to shape the story.

Because this approach is designed for longevity, it involves more time both on the wedding day and in post-production. Moments are given space to unfold, rather than being condensed, and the finished film is something couples tend to sit down and watch rather than scroll through. I don’t want you to spend ages away from your guests. We’ll plan ahead so that you can have a balance of natural portraits and time to enjoy your day with your loved ones. I aim to keep things quick, relaxed, and efficient, without interrupting the flow of your celebration. You’ll have enough time and still get beautiful photos that reflect all the key moments and the day itself perfectly.

How do you get those natural, candid shots without us feeling awkward?
All couples have doubts when it comes to their personal photos, so I’m all about making you feel comfortable. I’ll help you with relaxed, guided moments that you can have fun with, but most of the time, you won’t even notice me. I love to document meaningful glimpses as they happen, the laughter, the love, and the small details in between. You’ll look and feel at ease—you enjoy the moment, and I’ll capture it!

How do you manage group photos and family portraits?
Group photos are important, but I keep them organised and stress-free. We create a list of the key shots you want and also assign a couple of people to help me from your group. That will help guide everyone into place quickly. With a little pre-planning, we can get beautiful family portraits without feeling rushed or distracted from the celebrations. The sweet spot for group photos is between 10-15 with up to 8 guests at your sides. It can be very hot and it can take 2-3 minutes to set up each shot, so let’s get this bit out of the way as quickly as possible whilst still achieving lovely photos.

Will you capture all the special moments during the day?
Absolutely. I’m there to document all the important moments. You won’t have to worry about missing a thing as we will have had a chat about what moments and people should feature the most. All of those personal touches and important details that you’ve spent time planning into your day will be covered.

After Your Wedding – What Happens Next

When will we receive our photos?
You can expect your full gallery in around 4 weeks, but a sneak peak preview is available within 2-3 days so you will have between 20-40 images to share quickly.

What’s the editing process like?
I take a thoughtful approach to editing. My style is all about enhancing the natural beauty of your day. Your colours will be natural, vibrant and true to life, while ensuring your photos look timeless. Each image is carefully edited with attention to detail, but I keep things authentic so your photos feel as natural and beautiful as the moments they capture.

How will we receive our photos?
You’ll receive your photos via a private online gallery. It’s easy to access from any device, and you can download your high-resolution images directly to a laptop, pc or hard drive. The gallery also includes the option to order prints, if you’d like to preserve your memories in a more personal way.

Can we share our photos on social media right away?
Yes, absolutely! Once your gallery is ready, you’ll have the option to share your favourite photos immediately. I also create a sneak peak of 20-40 images and a social media-ready vertical photo reel, perfect for sharing, so you can show off those beautiful moments right away with your loved ones.

Do you offer albums or prints?
While albums and prints aren’t included, they are available as optional add-ons. If you’d love to have a beautifully designed album to showcase your memories, just let me know! I’ll guide you through the process to create something truly special.

Ibiza Small Wedding FAQs

Can you legally get married in Ibiza?

An Ibiza wedding can only be regarded as ‘‘legal’ if one of you is catholic or a resident of the island. Any ceremony conducted outside of a catholic church or away from the gaze of the local town hall will be symbolic. This is great news though! It means that you can have complete freedom over your Ibiza Small Wedding and particularly your ceremony. 

How long is the ceremony? 

You have a lot of say in how long your ceremony is and every celebrant that I recommend is a specialist in this area. Some couples just want something short and sweet, whilst others may welcome a nice recap of their time together along with some nice readings. The advantage of an Ibiza Small Wedding is that you get to choose and your celebrant will be happy to guide you. Typically a ceremony lasts between 15-30 minutes

How long does the whole thing take?

With ceremony and photography, you will need between an hour and 90 minutes. This ensures you make the most of the setting, enjoy a personal ceremony created just for you and some lovely photos afterwards. If your ceremony is close to a beach, cliff top or in pretty countryside then how long you spend there afterwards is completely up to you.  

How does the photography work?

An hour is usually all you need to get enough photos of the occasion. This would include your arrival, the ceremony and then some relaxed shots afterwards. You can expect to receive 80-100 edited images within the week. These would be available to download via a pro gallery service. You will also receive a gallery of photos resized for social media and sharing.

Can we choose any place we like? 

Yes! Within reason The beauty of Ibiza Small Weddings is that you are free to have your intimate celebration almost anywhere you like on the island. 
You can’t place any structures or have seating (due to local laws) and music/noise has to be kept to a minimum) but you’re free to enjoy almost any place in Ibiza for as long as you like. You might already have a spot that’s special to you both, or I can happily recommend the best areas.

How can we book?

Ibiza small weddings and elopements are usually booked between 3 months and 3 days beforehand. Short notice isn’t a problem if myself and the celebrant have availability The ceremony day and time is then confirmed with a small deposit.

When is the best time to get married in Ibiza?

Small weddings take place in beautiful places, these are however public. You may have some places almost to yourself in May, June, Sep or Oct, but find that in July and August it’s very difficult to secure a spot where there aren’t lots of people around. The heat is also something to consider, especially if your group includes small children or older people.

What time does the ceremony take place?

Ceremonies can take place either early morning or around an hour before sunset. Early morning weddings can be a lovely experience as the light is nicer, the air fresher and the beaches emptier.

Ibiza Small Wedding & Elopements – Best Venues

You might prefer an intimate venue if you have a small group, Ibiza has some beautiful options if you would like something a little more organised. Here are my favourite 6.

1. Mar de Santa – Santa Eulalia
   This is a great spot right by the sea and within walking distance of Santa Eulalia. It’s just far enough away from the town to feel peaceful and intimate. The food is amazing and the shady beachfront keeps things comfortabe thoroughout the day.
2. Santa Marta – Santa Eulalia
   A beachfront restaurant just outside of Santa Eulalia. The staff are friendly, the venue modern and well decorated and you couldn’t be closer to the sea!
3. Petunia Ibiza – Close to Cala Carbo
   This boutique hotel is the ultimate in intimate hideaways, and comes with stunning views of Es Vedra as standard.
4. The Beach – San Antonio bay
   For those staying in the Bay or over in town, this beachside venue is a really easy pick and perfect for family ceremonies by the sea. The celebrations continue with good food and drinks and a busy bay within walking distance for those that would like to enjoy the day for a bit longer.

It feels secluded but it’s very accessible. Elixir feels hidden and peaceful, but it’s easy to reach by car or minibus. Most couples arrange transport for their guests, and the venue is well set up for that, there are no long walks or tricky roads involved.

Are there places to stay somewhere nearby?

Yes – loads! While Elixir itself doesn’t offer accommodation, there are plenty of great options nearby, from boutique hotels and villa rentals to family hotels in San Antonio Bay which is only a 15 minute drive. Your guests will have a great range of choices to suit different styles and budgets.

Can you get married in a Villa in Ibiza? The answer is, yes of course! And you definitely should! 

This is a Villa Wedding Ibiza post but I just have to make a quick aside here to say that no Ibiza wedding is ‘legal’ unless one of you is catholic or a resident of the island. Any ceremony conducted outside of a catholic church or away from the gaze of the local town hall will be symbolic. This is great news though! It means that you can have complete freedom over your Ibiza Wedding and particularly your ceremony. 

Couples typically choose to have an Ibiza Villa Wedding because they want a free reign over their day. There’s also many stunning properties on the island which are perfect for an exclusive celebration.
