Ibiza Wedding Celebrants. Who they are and what can they offer your ceremony ♥

Did you know that before the 1500s we could marry ourselves? I don’t mean get married to ourselves, although I know some people who would do that. I mean we could just declare ourselves as a couple, married. These days we have professionals to do this job for us, which is just as well.

Ibiza weddings have enjoyed increasing popularity over the last 10 years. This popularity means a healthy choice of suppliers is now at your disposal. Ibiza wedding celebrants, once just an add-on in many a wedding package, are now offering some amazing and personal options for your wedding. So how can you choose which one is best for you?

These are the Ibiza Wedding Celebrants you need to know about and I’ve asked them all the same 3 questions

Meet The Ibiza Wedding Celebrants:

Carly Marie – Ibiza Celebrant

In her own words Carly came to Ibiza due to  “a friend betting us that the boat we were living on back in 2011 couldn’t make it all the way to Ibiza”. We won the bet (we being myself and husband Mike…also my childhood sweetheart.) and fell so in love with the island that we decided to stay”

  • Describe your ceremonies in 50 words or less:

“My style is relaxed, modern, warm, personal, genuine and fun. I think ceremonies need a balance of sweetness, sincerity and romance combined with lightness and laughter. I love working with couples to make their ceremony reflect them…their day, their way!

  • How do you plan and produce an Ibiza Wedding Ceremony for your couples?

We communicate via email, WhatsApp and video calls to suit and I send out a questionnaire and link to a private page of our Your Day Ibiza website with their booking confirmation.
If a couple have booked a ‘Written for you ceremony’, I will also contact their friends and family to get a picture of what they are like as a couple and individuals and for any anecdotes or kind words to include. This helps to make a ceremony even more personal and although more time consuming is my favourite type of ceremony to perform.

  • Describe your ceremonies in 50 words or less:

An elegant, personal and emotional wedding ceremony with a simple traditional structure. Involving family and friends so they too play an important role in the joining of two people and two families.

  • How do you plan and produce an Ibiza Wedding Ceremony for your couples?

After the initial contact with a couple, I arrange a video call with them. I feel it’s important that they like me. Seems like this is an obvious statement but it really is a must that we feel comfortable working together and that the couple get to know me as a friend. I will be playing an important role in their day so it’s important they feel relaxed with me.
If at all possible it’s great to meet in person and then the ceremony can be put together via emails and chats. I like to get as much personal background info from them so that I can use this in the ceremony.  Once they arrive on the island I will arrange for a run through with those involved in the ceremony so everyone can feel relaxed on the day

  • Favourite quote about Love:

“To love is nothing. To be loved is something. But to be loved by the person you love is everything.”

Oso

@osoibiza

Oso brings a relaxed and personal touch to his ceremonies and is something of a romantic himself. The name Oso means Bear in Spanish, but how did it come about? Oso explains that… “The love of my life, my Sharna, once called me her “Big Bear” and the name has long since stuck with family and friends”

  • Describe your ceremonies in 50 words or less:

Warm, personal, joyful & thoughtful. My style is inclusive, focusing on the couple & their unique connection to one another, as well as the group of family & friends who have made a tremendous effort to join them on their special day in a very special place – Ibiza.

  • How do you plan and produce an Ibiza Wedding Ceremony for your couples?

Celebrancy is a calling and it brings me so much joy to create meaningful ceremonies for my couples; I want to make their experience fun and exciting from the start. The way I approach designing a ceremony is based on my own curiosity and observations of who they are. I’m really interested in how two people connect with one another and relate to the world around them; how they build their love and life. I do this through lighthearted conversations, connecting with the couple whenever I can, and sometimes asking close family members and friends to help me build a richer portrait of their relationship. I’m romantic and sensitive at heart, so I find almost everything I need to build the ceremony comes from the couple and the stories they tell me, especially the little things. For me, a wedding ceremony is not just about retelling the tale of how a couple met, but also about making connections and revealing things about their love and relationship that friends and family probably don’t already know about them. The ceremony sets the tone for the rest of the day, so I look to create something meaningful with the right balance of fun, occasion, and magic. I want my couple to walk back up the aisle with an enormous boost of energy and love from their family and friends, which the entire wedding party takes with them into the rest of the day.

  • Favourite quote about Love:

Most of my favourite quotes are little things I overhear couples say to each other on their wedding days. Last summer, I created a ceremony for a couple who were married on a beautiful cliff-top next to the ocean. “You’re my ocean.” I heard the groom whisper in the bride’s ear. I loved that, it was perfect for that place and moment. It’s my idea of romance and it’s completely real, instead of something from a book or a song.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many weddings Sean has presided over! I’ve been a fair few of them myself 🙂 Lending a strong presence with a touch of well placed Irish humour has made him a firm favourite with many Ibiza Wedding planners and venues over the years.

  • Describe your ceremonies in 50 words or less:

I like to speak of the importance and the seriousness of marriage but in a way that’s presented as elegant and exclusive to you. I also put a strong emphasis on humour because although a wedding ceremony is a serious occasion it should also be a happy one with a few laughs thrown in!

  • How do you plan and produce an Ibiza Wedding Ceremony for your couples?

After initial contact and some chats by phone or email I will then make an in person appointment to sit down and talk together. We will come up with a wedding ceremony very special and personal to you both which will include some lovely moments very unique to Ibiza.

Describe your ceremony in 50 words or less.

Whether celebrating love with tears of joy or laughter, my ceremonies are an unique and immersive experience that truly reflect the couple.
Crafted to fulfil their expectations and embrace their personalities, each moment of their ceremony paints an unforgettable picture of their love story, to be remembered and cherished for a lifetime.

How do you plan and produce an Ibiza Wedding Ceremony for your couples?

I begin my journey with a couple, starting with a video call, diving into the couple’s world, soaking up their hopes and dreams. I lay out my trio of ceremony styles and give them a peek into my approach. It’s all about finding that perfect match.

Using vivid descriptions, I guide them through their big day, helping them visualize every beautiful detail. Once we’re all on the same page, I share with them a tailored, online questionnaire to really hone in on what makes them tick, to foster a deeper connection and ensure a bespoke, joy-filled ceremony.

From there, it’s a journey of refinement, with video calls, emails, and WhatsApp chats, fine-tuning the script until it’s just right—until it feels like them in every word.

Favourite quote about Love

“He’s not perfect. You aren’t either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can.”

Ibiza Wedding Celebrant – FAQs

Can You Legally Get Married in Ibiza?
In short, no. All Ibiza wedding ceremonies are symbolic (unless one of you is resident or catholic) So for you to be ‘legally married’ this would have to take place in your home country, usually beforehand. But this is not essential or mandatory.

We’ve Booked a Wedding Package. Do We Have to Have the Celebrant Included?
It’s not usually obligatory to accept whichever celebrant comes along with your wedding package. It is always worth checking with the venue/planner which elements can be changed or eliminated.
Celebrants that come with your package often read from a set script, so you might want something that feels a little more personal. In that case it’s best to source your own.

How Long Does an Ibiza Ceremony Take?
Ibiza ceremonies can last between 20-40 minutes. Your chosen host will walk you through your timings and will ensure the ceremony is as long or as short as you would like it to be.
Time of year is an important factor and should always be considered. If you have a July or August wedding then it’s advisable to keep things short. Your guests who have all been sat in the sun will thank you for it!

Can Ibiza Wedding Celebrants Perform a Wedding Anywhere?
Yes. All Ibiza weddings are symbolic so there are no restrictions on where they can be performed. Bear in mind that any spaces such as beaches and clifftops are all public and can therefore not have any unauthorised structures like arches and chairs placed on them. To do this is at your own risk and could attract some police attention and a fine. Ceremonies in these places are fine if everyone is standing. Always check with your celebrant first before planning a ceremony somewhere which isn’t a licensed venue.
